SUBMITTING ARTWORK FOR PRINT:
Designing for large format print can differ in many ways to other styles of printing; artwork and designs that look great in a brochure or on the web may not translate to larger outputs, therefore certain rules need to be followed.
When your artwork is produced with text we highly recommend using a vector based program such as Adobe Illustrator or InDesign, or Quark, then exporting as a high resolution PDF (PDF –X3 compliant). Producing designs in a program other to these may result in a pixelated or blurred looking print due to their vector handling capabilities
Bit-mapped: This is usually used for images such as photographs and places a colour in each pixel. When designing in large format any text should not be pixel based.
Vector: This is primarily used for logos and text however can create some very impressive artwork alone. Vector based artwork is not pixel based and uses a mathematical language to describe colour, shape and placement information of the individual components of an image.
ARTWORK SETUP INSTRUCTIONS:
This will differ depending on the artwork you are wanting to print however following the instructions below will work for any output.
Preferred file submission is high resolution PDF (X-3 compliant)
If your artwork is bigger than A3, set at 25% of the final printed size. E.g. If print size equals 700mmx2000mm, the document should be set at 175mmx500mm.
Add 5mm bleed to your document settings.
Convert all colours to CMYK. If you wish to achieve a particular colour match please include a swatch to match to.
If you have multiple panels joining to form a seamless graphic, set this up as one page where possible.
Where possible convert all fonts to paths/outlines.
Supply a final printed or jpeg proof.
SUBMITTING ARTWORK:
Preferred supported applications files are: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. Others are available. Save files in the native format with links and fonts if PDF export is unavailable. Do not export as an EPS.
If you are unsure of any instructions, please feel free to contact us.
COMMON MISTAKES:
Document is not set up to correct size.
Text is not converted to paths and fonts have not been included.
No bleed has been added
Links are low quality. [Often people increase a low quality file with an application such as Adobes' Photoshop to meet the 300dpi at 25% guide. Unfortunately this rarely works and will produce a pixelated/blurred image].
SENDING US ARTWORK:
Firstly please make sure you have read the above details for advice on how to setup your files; this should minimise any risk of file error.
Once completed the first and probably most obvious way to submit your artwork is to post it to us on disc. If you do this, please print a copy of your order and include it with the disc. [We get a number of artwork discs through each day therefore a reference to the order is very important in ensuring no unnecessary hold up to your print].
Yousendit, mailbigfile etc are all available for use.
You can also email the files to studio@exhibitionstore.com if they are under 20mb per email. [Please stuff or zip the application file as they can become corrupt during emailing]. Also, include the order reference given to you upon purchase. If you have access to an FTP site we can download from there; please contact us to arrange details.
For any artwork submitted it is assumed you have read and understood these guidelines. An initial disc inspection is made upon receipt of any artwork; if any problems are noticed at this point we will notify you immediately, any work done by exhibitionstore.com to correct issues may incur a charge of at least £20. Problems/errors that occur at print due to incorrect artwork setup may also be chargeable; if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
